Hawks basketball takes control
RED OAK - With the end of the football season that means basketball has started and Saturday, Nov. 12 the Hawks varsity and JV teams played a series of 8 to 16 minute games against Adams and Crandall high schools.
The format was set up so each team would play two eight minute periods, then take break while two other teams played.
The Hawks varsity squad looked good against Adams in their first game taking advantage of their speed, height and athleticism.
In their second game against Adams later in the morning, Adams made some adjustments and played much better and kept the Hawks in check until the Hawks went full court press and picked up some quick baskets and more importantly, went to the free throw line and ended up beating Adams again.
Crandall had some better athletes than Adams, but they could not stop the Hawks fast breaks on missed shots and the Hawks inside presence.
The JV squad looked good too, but it took half a game for them to find their stride.
In their first game against Crandall, both teams showed some early jitters and rust, but after an early time out, the Hawks responded and simply took control of the game and really played well as a team in what turned into a pretty easy win.
