Hawks fall to West Mesquite
RED OAK - Red Oak traveled to Mesquite last Friday in a must win game to have any hope at the play-offs, but the problems was, it was also must win for West Mesquite too.
Both teams came in at 3-3 in district play with the winner likely to grab the fourth spot in District 15-4A. The Wranglers took their opening drive and quickly scored to take a seven point lead.
The Hawks answered the Wranglers score with their own when Cameron Bausley (#34) scored around the left side.
The Hawks defense helped out their offense by stripping the ball on the Wranglers next drive and big Josh Fisher (#55) scooped up the loose ball and ran it in for the Hawks touchdown. The Hawks were now up 14-7.
Later in the first half, the Hawks would add a field goal to go up 17-7 and seemed to have things under control on both sides of the ball.
However, the Wranglers were able to put together a drive near the end of the first half to make the score 17-14 at halftime.
The second half saw the Wranglers score 14 unanswered points and while the Hawks defense did what they could stopping the Wranglers offense and forcing trhee punts, the Hawks four turnovers on offense proved costly.
However, even being two scores down, the Hawks played to the very end trying to get the win they had to have.
The Hawks ended up losing 29-17 and will now play for pride as the host the Lancaster Tigers this Friday night in their final 2011 home game.
