RED OAK - Kyla Burke signed to play softball with Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Tuesday, May 31.

SAGU is one of 300 colleges who are members in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA Division I).

They compete regionally in the second largest conference in the nation.

The Red River Athletic Conference has 15 institutions from four states (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico) as members.

Head Softball Coach Tim Grant had to travel a mere 10 miles north on Hwy 342 to sign his first recruit. Coach Grant is excited to have Burke play on his team.

Burke primarily played third base for the Lady Hawks and not only was she an outstanding fielder and hitter, she also brought attitude and fight to the 2011 Lady Hawks team.

At the signing were Burke’s parents, Jonathan and Ruthie Burke, Head Red Oak High School Softball Coach Tatum Thorne and Head SAGU Softball Coach Tim Grant.
