Hawks: Bi-regional Champions
RED OAK - The Hawks varsity baseball team entered the bi-regional round of the play-offs with nearly a three hour bus trip to Bryan Rudder.
Maybe it was the long bus ride that did the Hawks in, but the nearly double digit in errors didn’t help either and they lost game one of the best of three series.
Game two moved back to Red Oak on Saturday, May 7 and was a must win.
As bad as game one went, game two was totally opposite. The Hawks were focused and energized and did what they do best, they played situational baseball and took what Rudder gave them.
They went deep in the pitch count, laid bunts down to move runners around the bases and came up with timely hits into the gaps. Their defense did their job as well.
Nice pitching from Brandon McMillion, who went the distance, kept the Rudder Rangers under control the entire game and the Hawks won game two 6-4 forcing a deciding game three as most of the junior and senior class was heading off to prom.
The Hawks made it all worthwhile though, as the Hawks had taken the wind out of Rudder’s sail.
In game three, the Hawks changed nothing and sent Bryan Rudder home beating them 4-2.
The Hawks will now face Texas High from Texarkana in the area round of the Class 4-A play. The first game will be Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Buddy Groom Field in Red Oak. game two and game three, if necessary, will be at Texas High, Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m.
