RED OAK - The last time the Lady Hawks played Corsicana, they were 5-0 then the Lady Hawks showed up and went 12 innings and handed the Lady Tigers their first loss of the season.

Would the second game be any different? Not really.

The game started out with both pitchers forcing batters to hit ground balls right at the infielders or striking them out.

The Lady Hawks kept hitting the ball and bunting when needed and were slowing dialing in on the Corsicana pitcher.

The turning point in the game seemed to come in the fourth when Katy Boyce (#22) had a 12 pitch at bat to earn a walk.

The Lady Tigers pitcher was clearly getting tired and the next several Lady Hawk batters went deep into counts too and the Lady Hawks were finally able to get a run across on nice hard hit shots to the outfield.

It was different story for Lady Hawks’ pitcher Marley Dickert (#16).

She was simply in a zone and often only need three or four pitches per batter to get each out.

The Lady Hawks defense seemed to be in the right place at the right time on every hit.

The Lady Hawks one run lead held up until the top of the seventh until the Lady Tiger’s got a rally going and actually had bases loaded with 1 out.

However, a bunt down the 1st base line to Jaimi Munoz (#7) allowed Munoz to not only tag the runner out, but also keep the runner on third base.

The game came down to a 3-2 count, two outs and bases loaded for the Lady Tigers and after two foul balls the Lady Tigers’ batter hit a deep shot to left field and as it traveled everyone held their collective breath until Lauren Tamez (#17) chased the fly ball down and snared it in her glove to win the game for the Lady Hawks 1-0.

The Lady Hawks are now in the play-offs, but have one more home game against Lancaster on Thursday, April 21 which is also Senior Night.

The JV Lady Hawks also hosted Corsicana in the early game and basically used Corsicana as batting and base running practice.

The Corsicana JV pitcher struggled to get the ball over the plate, but when she did the Lady Hawks made her pay.

The JV Lady Hawks eventually run ruled Corsicana in four innings 15-0.
