Forney jumps past the Hawks
RED OAK - The Hawks played host to the Forney Jackrabbits on Friday, Jan. 28 as the District 15-4A season nears an end.
The Hawks came into the game in the third spot behind Ennis and Lancaster however, Forney came in pretty much out of the playoff picture and nothing to lose, plus they were coming off a huge win over Waxahachie.
Forney came out fast, hot and shot lights out (especially #22 Derrick Fain) nearly the entire game while the Hawks struggled to stay close and get points for three and a half periods.
Forney’s Derrick Fain was dropping three-pointers all over the place while the Hawks saw shot after shot rim out.
The Hawks did keep the game close enough to make a run in the fourth and with about three minutes left the Hawks began to score from outside and inside and made it to the free throw line where they inched closer and closer.
The defense step it up too and forced turnovers, but each time the Hawks got within 4, Forney would go down and hit another three-pointer or get inside for the layup and pick up a foul and the Jackrabbits withstood the Hawks last second effort and get a 78-74 win.
As of press time the Hawks are now in the fourth spot with Waxahachie’s win over W. Mesquite.
The Freshman and JV teams easily won their games and in the freshman game the Hawks had a 35-7 lead at halftime while the JV squad had a 13 point lead at halftime in their game.
