Hawks defeated by Lions, 58-51
RED OAK - The Red Oak Hawks hosted the highly ranked Ennis Lions on Tuesday, Jan. 11 in a key District 15-4A match up. Initially it looked like the Hawks for the highly ranked team for 3 ½ periods.
The Hawks even had double digit leads through the first half of the game.
However, with a little more than three minutes left in the third period, the Lions had clawed their way back into the game and took their first lead of the game.
By the time the fourth period was underway, the Lions were shooting lights out and the Hawks went stone cold.
In fact the Lions outscored the Hawks nearly 2-1 in the fourth period. The Hawks had opportunities, but just couldn’t get shots to fall from anywhere on the court.
It was a painful loss for the Hawks and the Lions were probably glad to get out of Red Oak with the win 58-51 and stay undefeated in District 15-4A basketball. In sub-varsity play, the JV had no problems with Ennis through most of the game and went on to win. In the freshman game, it was a little different.
The game was close until late in the fourth when the Hawks extended their lead forcing Ennis to foul where the Hawks took advantage at the line and played excellent team basketball. The freshman boys went on to win their game 67-54.
