ROJH girls basketball hosts DeSoto
RED OAK - The 8th Grade girls A and B teams hosted DeSoto East on Thursday, Jan. 6.
The A team faced a very good DeSoto A team and by the fourth period the Lady Hawks were down by more than 20 points.
However, the girls never stopped playing and played very good fourth period and although it was unlikely they could come back and win, they sure frustrated the DeSoto coach while having some fun too. They ended up losing the game 46-27.
The B team girls were able to hang on and win their game 19-14.
The ROJH 8th grade girls B team also played in the Red Oak 8th Grade B-Tournament hosted at the ROJH and Acorn Academy gyms on Jan. 7 and 8.
Local teams from Waxahachie, Lancaster, DeSoto and Duncanville all participated in the two day tournament.
The Red Oak girls won their first round game, but lost their second round game Saturday morning dropping into the losers bracket.
That did not deter the girls as they swept through the Losers bracket winning two straight games to play in the Consolation championship game against Duncanville Reed and they saved their best for last.
Against Reed, both teams went on small scoring runs only to see the other team come back.
This game came down to the last two minutes and free throws. After giving up the lead, the Red Oak girls hit a couple of huge baskets forcing Reed to foul and the girls responded by hitting key free throws with seconds left on the clock.
The Red Oak girls went on to win by 1 point and win the consolation championship game. To view action photos of the tournament visit www.movingpictures.photoreflect.com.
