Hawks return home
RED OAK - After a lengthy road and tournament trip, the Hawks returned home on Tuesday, Dec. 21 for district play and hosted the Corsicana Tigers.
All the non-district and tournament games paid off for the Hawks as they looked and played very well.
The first period was very fast paced and the game remained close as the Hawks had a 4 point lead.
The second period saw the Hawks slowly start to take control of the game as Jeremiah Gaines (#30) and Mandel Dixon (#15) began to take control of the inside game and went into halftime with a 8 point lead. The third period saw the Hawks extend their lead and the outside shooting began to open up.
In the fourth period the Hawks finally had full control of the game as guards were cutting into the paint for easy shots as the forwards pounded the boards.
The Hawks exploded for 21 points in the fourth period and went on to win 71-46.
The JV game was exciting too as they fell behind early in the game and battled back through three and a half periods to tie it up.
Late in the fourth the JV Hawks defense created some very timely stops and steals for quick baskets and took the lead.
They knocked down key free throws and held the Tigers back and went on to win 65-59.
