Red Oak Hawks lose to Corsicana
RED OAK - The Corsicana Tigers’ stingy red zone defense forced two second-half turnovers, including a fourth down sack with less than two minutes left, to defeat Red Oak 24-13 at Tiger Stadium on Friday night.
After a blocked punt gave the Hawks (5-3, 3-3) the ball with four minutes left at the Tiger 30-yard-line, Corsicana (6-3, 5-2) linebacker Tevin McDonald sacked Red Oak quarterback Claud Person at the 25-yard-line three plays later to preserve the Tigers’ spot in 15-4A’s top four.
Running back Cameron Washington went 73 yards for a touchdown two plays later to seal the game and Corsicana’s fifth straight win. The Tigers can clinch a playoff spot with a win at Forney next week.
Corsicana quarterback Thomas McDonald, filling in for the injured Cameron Cutrer, ran for 108 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns.
He passed for 61 yards.
Person passed for 106 yards and two touchdowns to go with two interceptions. Running back Cameron Bausley gained 46 yards on 14 carries to lead the Hawks, who were held to 151 total yards and four turnovers.
With the loss, the Hawks now must beat both W. Mesquite and Lancaster to have any shot at the playoffs.
This Friday the Hawks host W. Mesquite and it is also Senior Night before the game.
