Opinion: Jackets roll Win 31-24
FERRIS - The Jackets beat the Mabank Panthers in a key 13AAA District showdown Friday night in front of a good loud home crowd. The win puts Ferris in first place tied with Crandall. It remains to be seen but this team can enjoy a special season this year.
Mabank took an early leead 14-0 in the first quarter but Ferris came back strong in the second quarter to take a 17-14 lead at halftime. During this 2Q, the Jackets scored a touchdown on a very impressive 99 yard drive! To this reporter, it was the best and longest drive I’ve ever seen by a high school team. I think this drive was the key to the game and perhaps this season.
The Jackets defense played well overall with an outstanding performance by Adam Jones, LB, with 16 tackles. With under two minutes in the game, the Jackets defense stopped the Panthers on four downs at the Ferris seven yard line to seal the win.
"We showed great poise and clock management on the 99 yard 2ft 11 inch drive to take the lead at the end of the second half. The call by the officials was wrong on the punt that they gave Mabank the ball back. They called this morning and let me know that they blew the call. Our defense bent but did not break. Great stand at the end of the game. We are gaining confidence. I thought we overcame adversity like a mature, disciplined football team. Very, very proud of the fight these young men possess....we have a great chance to do something special," said Ferris Athletic Coach Randy Barnes.
Next Game: Friday, Oct. 22 at North Forney at 7:30 p.m. Hope to see you there Ferris fans!
