Heart breaker, Jackets lose
FERRIS - TC-Cedar Hill RB Melvin Coumpy caught a pass and busted loose for a 77-yard touchdown with about 2:00 left in the game for the winning score of 34-27.
With 1:13 left in the game our Jackets received the kickoff and # 10 Adrian Garcia, fullback, returned the ball to the TC 48-yard line.
On fourth down from the TC 39-yard line, the Jackets tried a run up the middle but came up short for the first down.
The game was close from start to finish. Ferris went toe to toe and nose to nose against the bigger TC-Cedar Hill players for four full quarters.
"I did not do a good job getting our kids ready. It always is going to be on my shoulders. Key turnovers, many mistakes on both sides of the ball. We are still looking for the right combination on the offensive line. I have got to get that unit fixed. We have three weeks until we start district and at some postions we are at square one," said Coach Randy Barnes.
"Our kids play hard, they play very hard....the mental mistakes have got to stop. I will not have players of the week after a loss. Defense...tackling was an issue again. We will work and work until we get things done. Very disapponting loss. Very, very down this morning...but I will rise...we will rise. We always do!"
A few highlights for Ferris players: touchdown runs of 6 and 11 yards by Shaka Collins, RB; 50 yard quick strike touchdown run by Benny Martinez; 70-yard run with recovered fumble by Ryan Kidwill before being tackled.
Next week’s game at home against Eustace is at 7:30 p.m.
