OBITUARY: Charles Earl Knox III

November 10, 1943 – March 20, 2024

Charles Earl Knox III, 80-years-old, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, peacefully at his home in Palmer, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. 

Charles was born Nov. 10, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He attended St. Marks private school in Dallas, then continued his education at The University of North Texas in Denton. He married Vikki Ann Lemons, and 8 years later welcomed his daughter Lelana Knox in 1974. He remarried to Brenda Jester, and had a son in 1986 named Charles Earl Knox IV. In 2004, tragedy struck and took the lives of his wife and son 20 years ago. He has been a widower since. 

Charles Knox III was known as “Papa Chuck” to his grandchildren, and as Chuck to his friends. He loved to talk to everyone and easily made friends with anyone he met. He loved to travel, and especially enjoyed taking trips to the family cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He also loved geology, archaeology, and collecting coins. He was different from the norm. The world will see no other like him again. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his brother Lawner Knox, his son Charles Earl Knox IV, wife Brenda Knox, his father Charles Earl Knox Jr, and mother Earlene Knox. 

He is survived by his daughter LeLana Ann Knox and son-in-law Zachary Madole, his grandchildren Jacqueline O’Neal and Aaron Jenschke, and great grandson Ryker O’Neal. He is also survived by his brothers Richard Knox, Robert Knox and wife Tina Knox, and by his nephew Kent Knox and Neice Kami Knox, and his first wife Vikki Alley. 

A celebration of Charles’ life is planned for the next couple of weeks at his home.
