WAXAHACHIE - Funeral services for Ruth Jewell Choate Scogin, "Mammaw," were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the chapel of Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie with Pastor Cory Hines officiating.

Born Dec. 23, 1926 in Olether, the daughter of John and Maggie Choate, she passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008.

She was the youngest child in a family consisting of twelve children and spent the majority of her childhood in the country around Palmer. 

As a young adult, she moved to Waxahachie and met the love of her life, Troyce Scogin. 

Ruth and Troyce married on Oct. 5, 1946, in Waxahachie and spent more than 60 years together devoted to each other and their family. 

She worked as a seamstress for 33 years in the Roy Lee Factory, Jan’s Dress and Bandman. 

She was a lifelong member of Ferris Avenue Baptist Church and also belonged to the Eastern Star, Chapter 599, in Waxahachie, where she held several stations throughout the years. 

Preceded in death by her mother and father; brothers Henry, Jack, Oscar, Grover and Leeman; sisters Claudie, Ellabelle, Sarah, Virginia and Marie; she is survived by her husband of 62 years Troyce; daughter and son-in-law Vickie Sue and Loyd Kirby; son and daughter-in-law Travis Glynn and Judy Scogin; granddaughter Lisa Randall and husband Ronnie; great-grandsons Joey, Daniel and Lynn Randall and wife Kristi and their daughter Kalli; granddaughter D’arcy Scheffel and great-grandsons Austin and Ben; granddaughter Tamira Allison Scogin and grandson Matthew Ryan Scogin and wife Lindsay and daughter Madelynn Elyse; sister Emma Irwin; sister-in-law Mary Schrum; and other family members including many nieces and nephews (Betty and Danny Woodruff and other members of the Choate and Scogin families) as well as special canine companion and best friend, "Sweetie."

  Interment followed at the Hillcrest Burial Park in Waxahachie under the direction of the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Funeral Home in Waxahachie.
