RED OAK - Barbara H. Hawkins, lovingly known as “Bobo,” age 76, of Red Oak, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 at her home.
She was born November 16, 1935 in Bristol, Virginia to James Lee and Marie (Armstrong) Hammond.
Barbara graduated from Surgoinsville High School in Tennessee in 1952, and she attended East Tennessee State University.
She married Conner Wayne Hawkins on Aug. 10, 1956 in Surgoinsville.
She was an avid sports fan enthusiastically supporting the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta Braves.
She loved reading, shopping, cooking, gardening, listening to country music and her family.
Barbara lived in many cities around the United States while her husband worked for the VA.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Duncanville for many years and had recently transferred her membership to Red Oak.
She was a longtime volunteer at the Duncanville Outreach Ministry.
Barbara will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Conner W. Hawkins of Red Oak; two daughters, Tamera Ashford and husband Gary of Red Oak and Sandy Hawkins of Palmer; three grandchildren, Mindy Mendez, Nicholas Ashford and Jacob Ashford; three great grandsons, Isaac, Xavier and Abraham; one brother, Ron Hammond and wife, Barbara of Maryville, Tenn. and brother-in-law, Keith Hawkins and wife, Wanda of Church Hill, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak with Pastor Allen Grant officiating.
