ELLIS COUNTY - Lee Gabor of the Palmer-Ferris area has created the Web site, http://MyEllis CountyTX.com to promote local businesses and non-profits to the 137,000 residents of Ellis County.

"It is vital that our residents buy and volunteer first in Ellis County before going to Dallas or shopping on the Internet or from mail-order catalogs.

"We want to keep our citizens employed as well as maintain a healthy tax base for all cities and towns in our county," Gabor stated, adding, "and by volunteering here, we serve OUR residents."

The Web site contains a variety of information including listings of local businesses and non-profits.

"Because I love history, the Web site also includes links to our heritage.

"According to historians, one of the interesting and little known facts is that Bristol missed being the State Capitol of Texas by one vote in the Texas legislature in the 1800s."

In the early 1970s, Gabor was a newspaper reporter covering political and business news. She wrote a wee-kly business and construction column for a daily in Indiana and serv-ed as a strin-ger for Uni-ted Press International.

As she observed manufacturing plants close and move to foreign nations, Gabor began to lobby legislators in the U.S. Congress to pass a law requiring one-half of everything bought in America must be manufactured in America.

At the time, legislators did not see the need for such a law and dismissed Gabor’s opinion regarding consequences that would occur in the future if manufacturing plants were allowed to leave the country. Gabor believes today’s high unemployment rate is a result of America’s moving from manufacturing-based to service-based industries.

"We can’t do much about the high unemployment rate throughout the United States, but we can influence jobs in Ellis County by being loyal to businesses here," Gabor said.

Other Web addresses that reach the site are MyEnnisTX.com, MyFerrisTX.com, MyGlennHeightsTX.com, MyItalyTX.com, MyMidlothianTX.com, MyOvillaTX.com, MyPalmerTX.com, MyRedOakTX.com and MyWaxahachieTX.com.

An additional 46 communities in Ellis County are mentioned on the Web site, as are the "ghost towns" which once held residents.

Gabor currently is a fre-elance reporter and photo-journalist submitting news articles to local papers.

Her personal Web site is http://LeeGabor.com.

Gabor’s email is Lee @MyEllisCountyTX.com. Calendar submissions may be sent to this address.
