Senior wins 2010 Black Enterprise Teenpreneur of the Year award
DESOTO - DeSoto High School Senior Gabrielle McBay won the 2010 Black Enterprise Teenpreneur of the Year for the business development of her Crumbs by Gabrielle company.
McBay learned of her award while attending the Black Enterprise 15th annual Entrepreneurs Conference held in Atlanta May 16-19. Crumbs by Gabrielle offers high quality, homemade baked goods to meet the demand and sweet tooth of any individual or occasion.
Crumbs by Gabrielle is owned by Gabrielle McBay (Gabby), who is also the executive pastry chef. She is assisted by her mom, twin sister, and two best friends. McBay has many years of experience baking and decorating cookies. After the cookies became very popular with close family and friends, the hobby became a business in 2006.
Great entrepreneurs come in all sizes — and ages. That’s why Black Enterprise welcomes young business talent for the best Teenpreneur program.
The program focuses on enhancing the youth’s business savvy, giving them an opportunity to learn the basic tenets of entrepreneurship and helping them apply those skills and techniques in the crafting of a viable business plan. With experienced entrepreneurs as instructors, the program guarantees an enriching, motivating experience that will help transform mini-minds into major-minds.
McBay was also a finalist at the Texas Entrepreneur of the Year program at TCU earlier in the spring along with DeSoto High School Senior Majisty Dennis for her Mime Academy.
