FERRIS - An unidentified man was found dead on Newton Road because of an apparent suicide according to the Ellis County Sheriff Office.

The complainant called in and advised the ECSO a friend staying with him went into his barn and got in a vehicle with it running, closed the door and committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas produced by burning material containing carbon.

The Centers for Disease Control estimates that carbon monoxide poisoning claims nearly 500 lives and causes more than 15,000 visits to hospital emergency departments annually.

The body is currently at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office awaiting an official autopsy.

ECSO has the body listed as an unexplained death until the results from the ME come through.
