Local gymnast heads to Daytona to compete in Pan American Championships
WAXAHACHIE - Clare Johnson of Waxahachie, who trains at Trevino’s Gymnastics School in Lancaster, will head to the Ocean Center at Daytona Beach, Florida next week to compete in the Pan American Championships.
USA Gymnastics is proud to host countries from North, Central and South America at this event.
Johnson, age 12, is a level 10 gymnast and will compete on Double-mini Trampoline and Individual Trampoline.
In November 2009, Clare was named to the World Age Group Team and represented the USA in St. Petersburg, Russia at the World Age Group Championships.
In December 2009, she and her coach, Richard Trevino, traveled to Rocklin, Calif. to attend a clinic where athletes were tested on strength, flexibility and skill performance.
After this clinic eight girls and eight boys from across the nation were named to the Olympic Development Trampoline Team, with Johnson being among them.
