Bluebonnet Blue Star Mothers send items to the troops
On Thursday, Dec. 3 the Bluebonnet chapter of the Blue Star Mothers of America packed boxes of collected items to send to the troops. "We want the troops to know they aren’t forgotten especially at this time of year," said the mothers.
The Bluebonnet chapter was founded in 2009 and serves the area of south Dallas County and all of Ellis County. There are a lot of military men and women from this area. The Blue Star Mothers are made up of mothers of military children. If you have a child in Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, National Guard or a reservist from any of these branches you are eligible to be a member. If you are a step parent and raised them since they were 13 and the natural parent isn’t involved in the organization, you are eligible.
If you would like to help there are numerous ways that you can. You can donate items to be shipped, donate money for postage, etc.
If you’d like to become a member you can contact President Cheree’ Barrett at 972-679-9425.
"We have been in several parades in Ellis County and had a booth at Pioneer Day in Ferris and Heritage Day in Ovilla. We are looking for new members actively.
"If your child has been deployed or at their home base you won’t find another group of mothers who know how you feel like the Blue Star Mothers," said Cheree’.
The Bluebonnet Blue Star Mothers meet monthly on the 4th Monday of the month at 7 p.m. If you’d like more information, please send us an email at BluebonnetBSM@gmail.com.
