Senior honored in National Achievement program

DESOTO - DeSoto High School senior Camille Forbes has been named an Outstanding Participant in the 2010 National Achievement Scholarship Program for scoring in the top three percent of more than 160,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the program when they took the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT).

Forbes’ name, school and tentative college major choices will be sent to about 1,500 colleges and universities along with the additional 3,100 Outstanding Participants.

The National Achievement Scholarship program was initiatied in 1964 specifically to honor academically promising Black American high school students.

The annual scholarship competition is conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) which also conducts the National Merit Scholarship Program.
