RLC ranks Barton libertarian

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Republican Liberty Caucus rolled out their 2008 congressional "Liberty Index" rankings on the 435 members of the U.S. House and the 100 members of the U.S. Senate, and Ellis Countys representative, Joe Barton, R-Ennis, scored a "libertarian" ranking.
The libertarian ranking, the highest on the RLCs Liberty Index scorecard, means Barton and others who scored in that category had votes in both economic and social issues that were above 80 percent.
Barton, who scored a 92 in the economic freedom category and an 80 in the social issues category, has served in Congress since 1984.
The RLC, which promotes Constitutional issues and scores elected officials on their voting records based on liberty, scored other local representatives as well.
Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Dallas, scored an "A" on the list, but not in a good way. The RLC "A" stands for authoritarian after the Liberty Index ranked her a zero on economic votes and a 15 on social issues.
Johnsons district includes DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Lancaster, Wilmer and Hutchins.
Kenny Marchant, whose 24th District includes parts of Cedar Hill and Duncanville, also scored in the libertarian bracket, the highest designation in the RLC chart.
