Rotary readies kids for back-to-school
CEDAR HILL – The Rotary Club of Cedar Hill gathered school supplies and volunteers at the Cedar Hill Food Pantry building on Sunday, Aug. 9 to fulfill their annual commitment to the Cedar Hill Independent School District students that are clients of the Food Pantry.
Since 2004, the club has raised funds with events like their Head for the Hills Bike Rally.
These monies were funneled into local support like purchasing many of the fundamental supplies for students from kindergarten to high school age. This is a huge benefit to the Food Pantry client families, who have fallen upon hard times and cannot afford this large once a year financial requirement.
The Cedar Hill Rotary purchased school supplies and packed bags for 250 pre-kindergarten -12th graders.
Clients who were approved by Aug. 1 qualified for these supplies, as purchases were made for specific students on the Food Pantry role prior to that date.
The bags will be given out Aug 15- Sept. 15. Parents will sign for and receive the supplies as they pick up their food on regularly scheduled days.
The Food Pantry is located at 403 Houston Street and is open Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m, Friday 9 a.m. - noon and Saturday 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
