City fires building inspector

WILMER – After seven years as building inspector with the city, Steve King was fired during executive session at last Thursday’s council meeting via a 4-0 vote.
Councilwoman Tiny Lange was absent.
The decision was made because a third party inspection company would be available during business hours. Most inspections are made after 5 p.m. and to help the city budget.
"Because of the downturn in revenues, the city has made the determination that outsourcing the responsibility of building inspection is a responsible means to trim budget," said Alice Holloway, city secretary.
"It will also be more convenient for the citizens to acquire proper permits and inspections during regular business hours. As we prepare for the upswing in growth, it will be necessary to have the inspector available and time flexible to accommodate the changing dynamics of planning development."
