Ovilla UMC to hold fall festival

Ovilla United Methodist Church will hold its annual "Lord’s Acre" fall festival from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8 at the church located at 1403 Red Oak Creek Road near Ovilla Rd./FM 664 in Ovilla. Craft booths, bake sale and the country store will be open at 9 a.m. Barbecue lunches (dine in or take out) go on sale at 11 a.m. A live auction featuring quilts, gift baskets, merchant services and decorative items begins at 1 p.m. For directions or information call the church office at 972-617-8840.

The Church at Texas holds a free gospel music concert at Jordan’s Crossing arena from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It is located one mile north of Palmer on I-45 service road on Pace Rd.

Monday, Oct. 27 – Saturday, Nov. 1

Palmer Cleanup Week

The City of Palmer will have Cleanup Week starting Monday, Oct. 27 running through Saturday, Nov. 1. Palmer residents can request that city workers assist with one of two options: 1. Pick up vegetative materials collected by the resident and take it to the Palmer Mulching Station. or 2. Chip vegetative materials collected by the resident and leave it for the resident’s use. To request either of these options, City of Palmer residents (those with a water account) should contact 972-449-3160 and press 1 when requested. A permit at no fee will be issued scheduling one of the options for sometime during the week. Permits will start being issued Oct. 20. A reminder that residents can get permits anytime to deliver vegetative materials to the Palmer Mulching Station located at 130 FM 813 (behind baseballs fields).

Meals-on-Wheels needs volunteers

Meals-on-Wheels needs caring volunteers to help deliver meals to the homebound elderly in your community. If you or someone you know might be interested in volunteering, please contact Meals-on-Wheels.

Basketball registration starting early

Basketball registration will start early this year to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate. From Sept. 1 to 15 the fee is $55 and from Sept. 15 to Oct. 4 the fee will be $65. There will be a registration booth on Sept. 13 at Red Oak Founders Day located in the city park. Afterwards, registration will take place on Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Brookshires parking lot.

2nd Annual Halloween Carnival

The Red Oak Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting the 2

nd Annual Halloween Carnival from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Municipal Center located at 200 Lakeview Pkwy in Red Oak. Kids ages 1-8 are invited to come out and enjoy the Halloween festivities. Trunk or treat

The First United Methodist Church of Red Oak will host a "Trunk or Treat" in the patch from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Sunday School classes and committees will be handing out prizes or candy. This is the last night for the Pumpkin Patch.

Fall Festival

Wooden Elementary School located at 200 Louise Ritter Blvd., by the high school will be holding a fall festival from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a costume contest at 7 p.m. As well as vendor booths, games, food and prizes. Call 972-877-7247 for information on vendor booths.

Junior teens, ages 11-12, are decorating cloth bags for Renfro Healthcare Center residents on Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jessica Strange will instruct the junior teens as they use paint and stamps to decorate the bags to give as gifts to the residents.

Teen movie Saturday

Teen Movie Saturday at Sims Library is from 2:30 to 4:30. This month’s movie stars Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth. This is another explosive, action-packed story of Marvel Comics superhero The Incredible Hulk.
