Free Dump Days
Ellis County will be providing free dump days for its citizens from 8 a.m. until noon (or until the dumpsters are full). The dump day is hosted by Ellis County Commissioner Bill Dodson. Cost is free. You are welcome to discard anything that can be disposed of in a registered landfill. We cannot accept Freon, car batteries, TVs, computers, chemicals or liquids. Tires are welcome provided the rim has been removed. Maximum size allowed is 22’ semi-truck tire. Tires are limited to 10 per person. Dumpsters are limited at each location, we will close early if they are filled before noon, please come early. For more information call Summer at 972-825-5555.

Sunbeam Club holds meeting at IHOP
The Southern Pacific Sunbeam Club will meet at the IHOP in Ennis on Tuesday for food, fun and fellowship. The fun will begin at 11:30 a.m. for all railroad people and anyone who loves a train. For more information, call 972-878-4069.

Knit and Crochet Group
The Knit and Crochet Group meets every Tuesday, from 9:30 until 11 a.m. at the Fellowship Hall in the First United Methodist Church, located at 101 Redbud in Ferris. Whether you are an experienced knitter or crocheter or just wanting to learn, everyone is welcome to join. There is an active Prayer Shawl Ministry and you can share patterns, advice and fellowship. The Ferris Youth Soccer Association will be holding their fall 2008 sign ups at the Ferris Square Gazebo from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The ages are 4 to 13 with an instructional league for three year olds. Proof of age will be required. For more information, contact 972-525-6246 or 469-245-7224. Volunteer coaches are also needed for all age divisions.

Portion of Mt. Zion Road to be closed
A portion of Mt. Zion Road will be closed for 5 weeks beginning on July 14. Access to local residences and businesses and emergency services access will be provided during this time. Through traffic will need to utilize an alternate route during this time, such as Creek Bend Drive or Oak Tree Lane. The Church at Texas holds concert
The Church at Texas holds a free gospel music concert at Jordan’s Crossing arena from 6 to 7:30 p.m. It is located one mile north of Palmer on I-45 service road on Pace Rd.

Vacation Bible School at First Christian Church in Palmer will be from 6 to 8 p.m. The school is for children ages three through the sixth grade. The church is located at the corner of Stacks and Paris Streets in Palmer.

Church on the Way in Wilmer will be holding A Give Away Extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everything is FREE. It is first come, first served. Items will only be held if individuals are planning to return with proper transportation within the hour. Highlights: Household items, clothes, some health information, outdoor games and fun, free hotdogs, chips and drinks. Located on the I-45 northbound service road, about ¼ mile from Beltline Rd.
