FERRIS - Shawn Hamm grew up here, attended and graduated from Ferris High School in 1997, and now is living a dream making a living, by traveling worldwide with the Canadian alternative rock band Three Days Grace.

Band members Adam Gontier, Brad Walst, Neil Sanderson and Barry Stock, all best friends, started their band in 1997 while they were still in high school in the small town of Norwood, Ontario, Canada, where they grew up.

Hamm, the tour manager for the popular group, was in Ferris this past weekend, Jan. 14-15, visiting his parents Bill Hamm and Brenda Markgraff taking the opportunity to show off his newly awarded Gold Album Three Days Grace received for the disc, “Life Starts Now.”

Hamm will be in north Texas for another week, before preparing for the groups next world tour, scheduled to begin sometime this Spring 2012, after the release of their next album.

“I am the first one up and the last one to go to bed. I work with radio stations and press announcing and coordinating tour date information,” said Hamm.

Hamm plays the acoustic guitar and ever-so-often the band calls him out, on stage to perform a song and yes, he sings too. Hamm had a band while living in Ferris called Neverset and even toured with TDG for several years before his band broke up. After the break-up, he was offered his current position as tour manager in 2009.

“It is really nice to do what you love,” said Hamm.

“I wake up in the morning actually loving my job. I get to travel all over the world. I have gone from a small country town to the world stage getting to travel all over Canada, over to Newfoundland, and coast to coast in the United States.”
