‘Waxahachie 101’ searching for 2012 participants
WAXAHACHIE - The city of Waxahachie is now registering participants for the “Waxahachie 101” educational program for residents.
The 12-month long program will provide participants a general overview of city operations, visiting a different city department each month.
The “Waxahachie 101” program was developed in 2009 to promote a better understanding of local city government.
The purpose is to help residents gain an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of city council and city staff, and become more aware of the departments, programs and activities.
This is the fourth year for the program.
“The goal of this course is to provide our residents with an outlet to learn more about the basic operations of the city,” said Community Relations Manager Amy Hollywood.
“‘Waxahachie 101’ will give participants an insider’s view of each department, as well as a better understanding of city government.”
The only requirements to participate in the year long program are that participants be 18 years of age or older, reside in Ellis County, and be able to attend meetings on a regular basis.
The class is limited to 25 participants, and registration will be on a first come, first served basis. The meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month, in the mornings, and a light breakfast will be provided.
The sessions will begin in January, and run until December.
The December meeting will be a “graduation” and appreciation luncheon.
The monthly topics covered are:
January – General City Overview
