The American Heart Association is the official charity of the Mrs. Texas International Pageant.
The current reigning 2011 Mrs. Texas is Angelique Hoover of Houston.
Hoover has dedicated her reign, as Mrs. Texas, to the Look Good…Feel Better Program: a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the self-esteem and quality of life for people undergoing treatment for cancer.
This brand-neutral public service program teaches beauty techniques to cancer patients to help them manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.
“Some time ago, one of my close friends was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer” says Hoover. “She immediately had surgery and began chemotherapy and experienced the typical reactions: loss of hair and eyebrows. How she looked really impacted how she felt. It was her experience [that] led me to the Look Good…Feel Better program. Now, I teach classes and help cancer patients to feel beautiful on the inside and out.”
Mrs. contestants will compete in Interview, Fitness Wear, and Evening Gown. (There is no talent or swimsuit competition and no experience necessary!!!)
