WAXAHACHIE - The officers and board members for the Education Foundation for Waxahachie Independent School District are pleased to announce the first annual “Legacy Run,” a 5K and One Mile Fun Run/Walk, slated for Oct. 8. The Legacy Run will be presented by local home builder, Lillian Custom Homes. The theme for this year’s event, which will take place during Homecoming Weekend, is “Lights. Camera. Hachie!”
“We are extremely excited that George Salvador, owner of Lillian Custom Homes, has committed to being our Presenting Sponsor,” stated Dr. Stephanie Singleton, Education Foundation Board Member and Chairman of the 2011 Legacy Run. “Mr. Salvador is committed to serving his community and the children of this district. This is evidenced by his commitment to the foundation’s mission to raise funds for innovative teacher grants and dual credit scholarships for juniors and seniors. We just can’t thank him enough,” she said.
The Legacy Run will feature a 5K course and One Mile Fun Run/Walk that will begin and end at the newly renovated Lumpkins Stadium. Early registration for the family friendly event will begin Aug. 1 and run through Sept. 23. Adult cost to participate is $25 and students (K-12) are $10. Children four and under are free with the purchase of an adult registration entrance fee. The foundation is also pleased to offer a “Family4Pack” discount to those wishing to make this a family affair. Participants may continue to register after the early registration deadline and on the day of the race for a fee of $35 for adults. The student price will remain the same.
“The inaugural 2011 Legacy Run will be an event that Waxahachie community members and WISD alumni can be proud of,” stated Dr. Singleton. “I can’t wait to see this become one of the main events during Homecoming weekend for years to come.”
The Hollywood themed event will feature something for everyone – from the dedicated runner to the family wishing to be active and get outdoors. “Race Alley” will feature bounce houses, face tattoos and clowns for the children as well as various booths for adults to peruse and visit.
The foundation also has other sponsorship opportunities available. These range from a “Gold Sponsor” listed at $1,000 to a “Wind at your Back” sponsor for $50. Those business or organizations wishing to set up a booth in “Race Alley” may do so for $25.
