Library Advisory Board implements monthly contests

WILMER - The Library Advisory Board has implemented monthly reading and writing contests for children and teens.
In April, an essay contest was offered and the prize was an Art Kit complete with acrylic paint and canvases. Isaac Anthony Martinez, seventh grade student at Wilmer Academy, won with his essay titled “Art…”
May’s competition is for a Microscope Kit and students in the 3rd – 5th grades can read a book from the science section and write a book report that is no more than one page in length.
June’s contest is for a Spy Kit and children will be required to read a mystery book and write a book review.
The Summer Essay Contest will be offered again in June and July for teens, 9th – 12th grade.
Prizes for this contest are: 1st prize $100, 2nd prize $60, 3rd prize $40. The summer essays are due by Friday, July 29.
The library will once again participate in the Texas Reading Club 2011. This year’s theme is “Dig Up a Good Book!”
We will be digging up all kinds of fun as we offer activities and programs on Tuesdays and Thursdays this summer.
The program runs from June 7 – July 19.
On Tuesdays, from 3–4 p.m., the library is sponsoring many outstanding guests and presenters for all ages to attend.
On Thursdays, we will have Tweens and Teens Time for children, ages 8 – 15, to come for games, crafts, movies and fun.
