The Palmer Garden Club met on Tuesday, March 8 at the Christian Church to hear a program presented by Joice Price on “The Life of Virginia Duff.”

Duff was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1950 after a very tough campaign. She served from 1951 to 1963.

She authored several important bills like it being mandatory for people to stop if a school bus is loading or unloading children.

She helped create the Denton State School.

Duff also served on the advisory committee on Segeration, Governing Local Water Districts, Traffic Safety Committee and the Texas Land Scandal.

When she left office, she returned to her job with Mobil Oil and later retired in 1976. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 3 at 11:30 a.m. at the Wildflower Café in Ennis.

Master Gardener and Naturalist Gerald Vanzandt, will install officers for the 2011-12 year.
