Jazz Café returns to Civic Center
WAXAHACHIE - Advance tickets are available through Monday, January 31 for the uniquely American sounds of smooth jazz, swing and Big Band-era music at the annual Jazz Café on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Waxahachie Civic Center.
Elegant food, dancing, door prizes, raffle drawing, and a tempting silent auction of a wide variety of prizes will round out a special evening of entertainment.
The soulful sounds from yesteryear’s bands of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and more will be provided by the Waxahachie Jazz Orchestra at this annual event hosted by the Waxahachie Band Boosters.
Jazz Cafe is no ordinary band concert, but rather an entire evening of entertainment with good food, music and friends, said a Jazz Café spokesperson. "An entire generation and more learned to dance to this kind of orchestra music.
Jazz Café brings back the mood of that era -- close your eyes and go back in time to imagine the time when a perfect date was candlelight dinners to the sounds of live music, the company of good friends, and, if the mood struck you, a little light dancing," said a Jazz Café spokesperson.
The award-winning Waxahachie Jazz Orchestra is composed of a select group of musicians from the WHS band program who serve as ambassadors of music to the community for the WISD band program.
Citizens National Bank is a dining sponsor for Jazz Café, and dinner will be provided by My Sister’s Affair catering, featuring an elegant meal with chicken with cilantro rice or beef tenderloin, scalloped potatoes, roasted vegetables, and an assortment of desserts.
Special guest artists will be WHS alumni brothers jazz trumpeter James Davis and saxophonist Keith Davis, and other local guest talent.
Both Davis brothers are now professional musicians and music teachers.
Proceeds from the event benefit students in grades 6-12 of the Waxahachie band program.
Jazz Cafe will feature a huge silent auction of varied prizes from many local merchants, tickets to Metroplex sports events and concerts, WHS football, spa services, restaurant gift certificates, themed gift baskets from students in the WISD band programs, and much more.
