Chamber of Commerce help sponsor 'Roc Day'

LANCASTER – The Over the Wheel Gang and The Sassy Spinster will host a "Roc Day" celebration this Saturday, Jan. 8, also known to some as St. Distaff’s Day.

"Roc Day," according to a release issued by the Lancaster Chamber, is a gathering of weavers and spinners that occurs after the 12 days of Christmas and is one last day to play pranks and participate in fun and games before starting the daily rituals of the daily rituals of the New Year.

If attending, expect to see people spinning yarn from raw fiber as well as tables set up offering handmade items for purchase.

There is hopes from the organizers to have a sheep to shaw contest which constists of 3 spinners and one weaver, spinning the yarn to weave a shawl in six hours.

All the festivities are set to take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Lancaster in the Fellowship Hall located at 201 S. Dallas Avenue.
