ENNIS - I am going to share an amazing story with you.

It is hard to believe the season is already upon us, that wonderful time of year when family, friends and large, old fashion homemade meals brings us together.

Close your eyes with me and smell the turkey and dressing, candied yams, green bean casserole and fresh baked rolls hot out of the oven. The wonderful aroma of coffee brewing and mouth watering pecan pie Me Maw made from scratch.

Okay this is the incredible true story of a sweet little lady, Della Pellum, and her unexpected accident that led to the tragic spiral of her health, and her recovery that is as miraculous as this wonderful season!

I have no doubt that without the extremely committed team of professionals at Ennis Care Center, and the focus given to each individuals need, along with a sincere concern for each person in their care, is the ingredient that gave Della what she needed to make her recovery.

The story began on what was a beautiful Sunday morning with Della at HEB shopping for a few ingredients needed for the good old fashion home cooked meal she planned for that afternoon.

Tragedy struck when she returned home, as Della carried items from her car she fell before making it into her home.

At this point things go from bad to worse, real quick.

Della was taken to a hospital in Dallas, and then moved from hospital to hospital. Through this awful ordeal she became very weak, eventually had to be fed through a feeding tube, and from the lack of activity developed serious wounds.

Thankfully after weeks and weeks of hospitalization, Della was sent to Ennis Care Center, where she would get the personalized attention needed. She was weak and brittle upon arriving at Ennis Care Center. Excruciating pain from her wounds and the increase weakness made it extremely difficult for Della to get out of bed much less attend her important therapy sessions.

Slowly but consistently with the focused attention of professionals at Ennis Care Center, Della became stronger and began recovering more and more, like a snow ball gaining momentum.

Her wounds began to decrease in size with the care and attention and are now healed. As her strength grew she was able to get off the feeding tube and get out of bed. Della gained more and more strength along with her spirit being lifted, and it was not long before she was able to eat without the need of a feeding tube, and get strong enough to tolerate therapy sessions in the therapy gym.

Today Della uses her rolling walker to walk about the facility so she can visit with all the friends she has made, and attend all the activities she has come to look forward to. Della is ready to advance to walking without any assistance and start her discharge plans to get home.

"I thank GOD everyday I came here, and for all the help I have received and all the wonderful friends I made," said Della.

Della’s story is a true success, and Ennis Care Center is proud to have Della as a friend.

I am glad I could share her story along with wishing Della a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas, just a few of the things I am so glad Della will be able to enjoy this season. I want to say Ennis Care Center is the kind of place you would take your dearest loved one for help. I would like to wish everyone, a joy filled Thanksgiving, and pray God blesses you at Christmas.
