FERRIS - Donna Shaw was recently named outstanding staff member by the Ferris Independent School District.

Shaw has worked for Ferris ISD for 22 years as the secretary for Ingram Elementary.

She has been the secretary of four principals: Larry Hair-grove, Jan Willeford, Lisa Watson and Steve Freeman.

When Shaw first began working as the secretary there were two phones in the building.

One in the principal’s office and one on her desk with a sign beside it that said "two minutes for all phone calls."

Prior to working at the school Shaw was the secretary to the President of the Commerical State Bank’s in Ferris.

When Janie Willis took the job of Dr. Newman’s secretary she recruited Shaw to take her place. Shaw works countless hours taking care of all of the staff and students of Ingram Elementary along with the Ferris community.

During the holidays she conducts a food drive and coordinates with other local organizations to feed area families.

At Christmas she assists classrooms and staff members in adopting "angels" to provide Christmas for.

She collects school uniforms for needy children and organizes an annual uniform exchange for the community.

Shaw is a pillar of the Ferris community. She is called upon often for advice, encouragement and not to mention the occasional funeral solo.
