Ferris High School: Design award winner

The new Ferris High School is an award winner for excellence in "planning and design" for new school construction.

The announcement was made at the recent 2010 Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Boards Convention in Houston.

The new high school for Ferris Independent School District was designed by the architect firm of Architects Rabe + Partners and was displayed in the "Exhibit of School Architecture" at the convention. The exhibit showcased the very best in Texas school architecture.

Many members of the Ferris school board attended the convention including: Thomas Griffith, Board President, Robert Scott Jr., Board Vice-President, Lee Longino, Board Secretary and Jorge Lopez, Board Member.

Ferris ISD staff members attending the convention were: Mike Bodine- superintendent, Ofelia Grass- assistant superintendent and Ron Smith- sssistant superintendent for business.

The Ferris High School entry will be displayed in The Showcase of School Architecture to be held in conjunction with the TASA MidWinter Conference, Jan. 30 - Feb. 2, 2011 at the Austin Convention Center.

Only projects that were winners at the 2010 TASA/TASB Convention will be featured in the showcase and eligible for the prestigious Caudell Award of School Architecture.

The competition is held so superintendents, school administrators and school board members may view what constitutes the finest qualities to be found in facility planning and design.
