– Waxahachie’s City Parking Garage Project has been named a finalist in the Best Public Improvement category for the 2010 Texas Downtown Association Awards Program.

The Best Public Improvement award recognizes excellence in public projects and planning in downtowns or commercial districts.

"We are very excited about the parking garage being named a finalist for a TDA award," said Waxahachie Main Street Director Anita Williamson.

The other finalist for Best Public Improvement is the Downtown Oak Street Renovation Project in Roanoke.

"The garage is the product of a great deal of hard work and dedication from many people and will serve not only the downtown employees and business owners, but locals and tourists as well.

Locally, we have received a lot of positive feedback, and it is exciting that this project is now recognized on a state level," said Williamson.

Since 1998, the awards program has recognized more than 150 projects, events and people that make a difference in Texas downtowns.

Judging for the awards took place on Friday, Aug. 6 in Austin.

The jury panel included the following representatives:  Tony Eeds, White Rock Studio; Krista Gebbia, Preservation Texas; Bill Hodges, Sonora; Sarah Page, Lower Colorado River Authority; and Kay Harvey Mosley.

Finalists will make a presentation at the Texas Downtown Revitalization Conference in El Paso on Thursday, November 11.

Winners will be announced at the Awards Gala to be held that evening.

The Texas Downtown Association, currently celebrating its 25th anniversary, is a statewide nonprofit organization comprised of more than 400 members involved in downtown revitalization projects.
