Man shot, killed

WAXAHACHIE – A 33-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head over the weekend.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s office received a call around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 12 about a gunshot victim on Rocky Drive in Waxahachie.

Upon arrival, Justice of the Peace Jackie Miller Jr. pronounced Manuel Garcia Jr. dead at the scene before the body was take to the Dallas Medical Examiner’s office.

The suspected weapon was recovered at the scene and the people who were there when the shooting took place were interviewed according to the ECSO.

"At this time we are not suspecting a homicide but won’t know for sure until we get the results from the ME’s office," stated Chief Deputy Dennis Brearley via email.

Currently, the ECSO has the incident listed as an unexplained death.
