WAXAHACHIE – Newly appointed council member Mark Singleton requested the city look into their policy on how they select their members for the Mid-Way Regional Airport Board during the Monday , June 7 meeting.

"I think Paula [Baucum] is doing an outstanding job and while the airport is currently in process of an expansion, I feel if the job is getting done, why change it and interrupt the flow of things?"

Assistant City Manager Michael Scott advised the council current Airport Board Chair Paula Baucum’s term, representing the city of Midlothian, will expire toward the end of this month.

The board is comprised of seven members, three from each city and then a member who is appointed on a rotating basis every three years.

"The three year position rotates between the two cities in June, " stated Scott.

"Because of this stipulation, it must be appointed outside of our standard board appointment process."

Mid-Way Regional Airport is jointly owned and operated between the cities of Waxahachie and Midlothian.

Currently serving are : Jim Polewchak, Paula Baucum, George Kent, Aubrey Price, Kent McGuire, Gary Richter and Dale Stevenson.

The council unanimously decided to go ahead and check with Midlothian to see if the necessary changes could be agreed upon to keep Baucum on board.

"As long as we change the board policy and give the appointment at the same meeting we will be ok," said City Attorney Steve Chapman.

In other related council news Director of Utilities David Bailey presented Everett Viar with the "2009 Operator of the Year Award" from the Texas Utilities Association.

"He always has a ‘can do’ attitude and has worked his way up from operator to superintendent," said Bailey.

"Thank you so much, I want to thank all the hard working guys on my team," said Viar.

The city also received the "Best Tasting Water Contest Award" in the district and will be represented at the 23 annual state wide contest in Corpus Christi later this year.
