ELLIS COUNTY – More than 27,000 marijuana plants were discovered in fields near the Navarro County line.

Ellis County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Domestic Marijuana Eradication (DME) program sponsored by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Drug Enforcement Administration to uncover four fields of growing marijuana in the Ensign Road area Thursday, May 20.

Deputies responded to the area along with Texas DPS personnel and seized the marijuana plants.

The potential street value of the marijuana plants, had they reached maturity, would be approximately $13.6 million.
