WILMER – City officials confirmed Whirlpool is planning to move a one million-square -foot distribution center creating hundreds of jobs in the area Friday, April 30.
"This is a very exciting for all of us," said City Secretary Alice Holloway.
First Park DalPort Distribution Center along Interstate 45 is said to have won the contract after Whirlpool searched for a new regional distribution center space around the North Texas area for two years.
In order to speed delivery and reduce inventory, Whirlpool Corporation’s supply chain is consolidating their number of regional distribution centers.
The new location in Wilmer will serve the Southern United States.
The success of Wilmer bringing new business to our city I believe is a reflection upon the current city council’s initiatives that have identified the city’s strengths and its weakness to market Wilmer as ‘developer friendly,’ stated Mayor Jeff Steele.
"The hard work of council, along with strong citizen and stakeholder input, developed and ratified the city master plan. This master plan is the key to build out the city without losing the rural feel that we enjoy in Wilmer. This hard work is paying dividends as developers recognize that Wilmer’s commitment to improve our city is without question.
Improving the tax base and getting jobs into our city is priority. We are excited about the Whirlpool project but, in the past six months, we are also proud to welcome Continental Tires and Arch Chemicals into the city."
Whirlpool Corporation is a Fortune 500 company and a global manufacturer and marketer of major home appliances.
