FERRIS - Local Boy Scout Troop 206 gave a helping hand to the Ferris Police Department in their investigation on the two local business burglaries that occurred last week.

"I want to give a huge amount of appreciation to the great work those six kids did helping us recover the surveillance cameras behind the Dollar General," said Ferris Police Department Investigator Sam Love.

"They were submerged in water but I am hoping there is a way the drive can be restored so I might have a lead as to what the suspects look like."

Around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 13 a long time employee of David’s Grocery noticed the store had been broken into and called FPD.

Authorities were soon to discover Dollar General had been hit over the night as well.

Security alarms weren’t activated because the suspects cut the phone lines to each business before entering.

Authorities were soon to discover Dollar General had been hit over the night as well.

"There was $3,000 worth of cigarettes stolen and $300 cash from David’s," said Love.

"They [the suspects] stole the safe deposit box at Dollar General which contained $1,500 cash."

Nine holes were cut on the roof of David’s and Dollar General showed signs of having at least one hole on the roof and one on the back of the building where the safe deposit box was according to a ECSO investigator.

"The assumption is the suspects used a small motorized saw to make the holes," said Love.

A white Ford pickup truck was stolen in the same area April 13 and later discovered Thursday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas where the ignition switch was knocked out to start it.

The investigation is still ongoing while the first set of evidence should be back in six weeks according to Love.
