WAXAHACHIE - Police reported a 17-year-old male attempted to rape a 16-year-old female before trying to commit suicide.

Around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, Waxahachie Police Department and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office reported to Heritage Baptist Church on Butcher Road in Waxahachie.

Upon arrival, officers found self inflicted cuts to the 17-year-old-male’s neck where he was then transported by air to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

A 16-year-old female reported the male had forced himself on her in a restroom at the church after he followed her into it.

Reportedly, the male physically forced and then threatened the female with a razor.

The young victim escaped the scene when a woman from the church came in, heard some noise and asked what was going on.

According to a statement from ECSO, when the first Waxahachie police officer arrived on the scene the young male then inflicted his wound.

Identity of the 17-year-old is being protected while in the hospital.

Chief Deputy Dennis Brearley said the male is still at Parkland receiving care and he will not be arrested until he is released.

Stories circulating there was a shooting at the church are not factual.
