Desoto – Two DeSoto middle school students were honored by involvement in Education in Action leadership program.
The Education in Action Lone Star Leadership program stret-ches out across 76 separate school districts across the state and has created a council of 127 students.
One member of this council is William Baker, a sixth grader at McCowan Middle School in DeSoto.
Baker has dedicated his free time to tutoring student peers and working with other children in his neighborhood.
Baker’s sponsor, and teacher at McCowan Middle school, Beth Wright claimed, "Our Students are being helped in recovering/making up assignments and William is a great example in tutoring, character, and academic success."
Among the hand selected students to be involved in a special week-long leadership program and Texas history briefing was West Middle School sixth grader Garfield Harrison III.
Programs such as these and the Education in Action provide outstanding students with an excellent opportunity to develop leadership skills and meet other students all while adding to their resume of academic achievements.
