MIDLOTHIAN – According to City Secretary Lou Jameson, early in the afternoon, Monday, Feb. 8, a gunman was on the loose in the city which initiated a lockdown for Vitovsky Elementry, Baxter Elementary, Holcim and Mid-Tex among other area businesses.
Witnesses spotted a black male in the vicinity of Midlothian Parkway and U.S. Highway 67 walking with a pistol in his hand.
According to City Manager Don Hastings, the details are very sketchy at this point but apparently a black male car-jacked a pickup near Walgreens at 287.
"We called all neighboring police jurisdictions and issued a manhunt," said Hastings.
Witnesses claim they saw the man jump in a van which left the scene quickly.
The police department believes the gunman has left the area and all businesses have since been notified.
