Jan., 2010 – HAPPY NEW YEAR! … HAPPY NEW DECADE! … This is a special time in our lives, when we close a decade – the decade of the Aughts – and start a new decade, the Teens! … In the Aughts we survived the Y2K scare (the world didn’t end after all) and then we had a rude awakening with an event now known as 9/11, and our lives were forever changed. We started the Aughts decade with great prosperity, but ended the ten years with a record recession. What we have proved to ourselves is that the American people are unbelievably resilient and resourceful. … And life goes on. …
“Remember, today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.”
-- DALE CARNEGIE
Our Lancaster Chamber is a case in point. When things were the bleakest in 2009, we had a successful Auction/Gala in April and a record-setting Duffers’ Derby in October – with monthly Chamber Luncheons and NCA5 Networking Events mixed in. … These successful events helped us to achieve our 2009 Program of Work, or Business Plan. Our 2009 Chairman of the Board Vivian Chastain, a dynamic leader, was a huge part of that success. Thank you, Vivian! … Or Boss as she likes to be called!
This coming year of 2010 will not be easy, in fact some are saying it could be more difficult than 2009, but with the leadership we have in place and on your Board, I feel confident of good results.
An Interurban Building is now a Visitors Center
In 2000 the City of Lancaster was awarded a TxDOT grant for a Visitors Center, a Bridge and Beautification of the Downtown Historic District. … Now, late in December of 2009, that Visitors Center is virtually complete, and your Chamber will be moving into new quarters across the street – at 103 N. Dallas Ave. – in early 2010! … See accompanying photos. … What a decade this has been!
Our Lancaster Chamber Luncheons were very popular in 2009, with good attendance, great speakers, good food, networking, and great hosts at the Recreation Center’s Grand Hall! … And we start off 2010 with a bang hearing Mayor Marcus Knight speak at our January 14, 2010 Chamber Luncheon in Grand Hall, delivering his annual “State of Our City” address. … Catering will be done by the Dallas Ave Diner gang. …
Mark your calendar! … February 11th, 2010, brings us our Annual Awards Luncheon to be held in Grand Hall. … Get your award nominations in!
Happy New Year and Happy New Decade! … And we’ll see you
