An old, vacant building located on the 200 block of SW Main Street in Ennis collapsed around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5. Michael Derfler was about to get into his car when he heard a noise. "I just took off and ran down the street with bricks and debris flying everywhere to call 911," said Derfler.

Police Chief John Erisman said nobody was in the building and no injuries occurred except for a few minor damages to the parked cars in front.

"My sister [ Doris Zmolik ] and I just reclaimed our family building back [it’s been family owned since the 30s or 40s] from a dentist in Dallas not too long ago and have been making extensive repairs to the building and replacing the roof for the past six years," said John Parma, building owner.

The fallen debris will be removed and a cyclone fence will be in place as soon as possible.

The exact cause of the accident was not determined as of press time.
