ENNIS – Ennis Police Department reported an unidentified woman was driving her vehicle down the 3300 block of the Interstate 45 service road when her ex- boyfriend, Jeffrey Gothard assaulted her as she got out of the car and stole her 14-month-old baby Thursday, Nov.12.
As the woman tried to get away, police said, Gothard, 21, grabbed her by the neck causing bruising and refused to let her call 9-1-1 all because she wouldn’t leave her current boyfriend and move back in with him.
Gothard left the scene grabbing the 14-month- old out of the passengers side and hit the child’s head on the car as he sped off.
As the ex-girlfriend went to pick up the cellphone from the ground, the call went through and Cpl. Sherman Swafford arrived on the scene.
The mother of the child/ex- girlfriend followed Swafford back to the station as she was called again by her ex who was refusing to bring the child back because he knew he would be arrested.
According to reports, the unidentified woman went outside to smoke a cigarette when the ex came back to drop off her baby witnessed by Lt. David Anthony and Sgt. Fred Pontley of Ennis PD.
Gothard attempted to resist arrest on the scene and was charged with aggravated kidnapping, assault causing bodily injury and injury to a child.
Gothard is currently being held on bond.
