ENNIS – The almost rhythmic coming and going of cement trucks on Sonoma Trail in Ennis marked a milestone for the county Wednesday, Nov. 4, as contractors poured the post-tension slab foundation for the Ellis County sub courthouse located in Ennis.

"We are all excited," said County Judge Carol Bush, who was at the site in honor of the occasion.

"This will be a first rate facility and a good addition to the community.

It is a big plus for the east side of the county."

The building will serve as the primary office location for Judge Bill Woody, Justice of the Peace, pct. 1 and Ben Fry, Constable, pct. 1.

A number of other county officials will have satellite offices there as well, including County Judge Carol Bush, County Clerk Cindy Polley, County and District Attorney Joe Grubbs, and Tax Assessor-Collector John Bridges, along with Veterans’ Services, Adult Probation, and Indigent Health Care.

"I am eager to establish the satellite offices here," said Bush.

"We all make every effort to be accessible."

Also on hand for this morning’s momentous progress marker were representatives of Congressman Joe Barton’s congressional and campaign offices: Campaign Staff Assistant Kristin Barton, Campaign Director Carol Bouldin, and Deputy District Director Dub Maines. County Engineer Joe White and Judge Bill Woody were present as well.

"This has been seven years in the making," said Woody, smiling broadly.

White said he expects county offices to occupy the building in the spring, on schedule despite rain delays.

"We are on target," he said.

"Tony Medina came by today and looked at the slab, and he thought it looked great."

White added that Medina, structural engineer with AGTM Engineering in Ennis, was chosen for the project because of his extensive experience with high swell soils such as those we have in Ennis.
